🧠 Grain-Free? Raw? Trendy or Trouble? Let’s talk cat diets.
In this video, cat veterinarian Dr. Ask breaks down popular cat food marketing trends like grain-free and raw diets, and explains what really matters when choosing the best diet for your cat.
👨⚕️ We’ve already covered how to read cat food labels—now it’s time to dive deeper. Are these trendy diets actually better? Should your indoor housecat eat like a feral or stray cat? I explain why that logic can be misleading—and even risky.
💡 What you’ll learn in this video:
– Why “grain-free” isn’t always a good thing
– The real difference between indoor cats and feral cats
– The risks of raw food diets (including recent outbreaks)
– Why long-term data matters more than marketing
– How human diet trends are shaping pet food labels
– How your own food values may influence your cat’s diet choices
– Tools to help you choose a safe, balanced, long-term diet for your feline friend
✅ REMEMBER: Not all diets are created equal—and not all “natural” diets are safe. Cats need complete and balanced nutrition backed by science, not hype.

Yes, all the cats eating grains and over processed foods are obese. Just like their human counterparts.
My carnivore cats live 25 years. No health issues.
thanks for the info; cats cannot digest carbs well, look at housecats, most are obese/overweight just like people in this country mostly due too many carbs or empty carbs/overeating because they are not getting nutrition they need; when I feed mine raw, their poo doesn’t smell horrific like it does when they get canned (it has barely any smell); when I collect the kitty litter, its 2/3rds less in volume of poo/pee; my cats are indoor outdoor and have never been vaccinated either; they are strong hunters and smart…I stick by raw and supplement w/a high quality high animal protein kibble and high quality canned (but mostly raw); I have seen all positive results from the raw versus from cooked/kibble and it’s a big difference; also, they don’t have as many fleas when I comb them, and don’t shed much either/big difference w/the shedding; getting fresh air/sun and grounding all helps too
